Boston University School of Management Announces Recipients of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Awards

Each year, Boston University School of Management honors alumni who have made significant contributions to their profession, their community, and the School. The recipients of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Awards are David R. Jones, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of CastleOak Securities, and Arnold M. Karp, President of Karp Associates, Inc. and Co-Founder of Insight Laboratories. The award recipients were honored at the Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony held at the School of Management on October 29.
“David Jones and Arnold Karp are leaders that make a difference professionally, in their communities, and at the School of Management,” said Ken Freeman, Allen Questrom Professor and Dean of Boston University School of Management.” They are great alumni representatives and strong role models for our current students as we prepare future generations of responsible leaders.”
About the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Awards recipients:
David R. Jones, BSBA ’86
David Jones is Co-Founder, President, and CEO of CastleOak Securities, a leading boutique investment bank that provides sales and trading, capital markets, and financial advisory services. The company offers expertise in primary and secondary market transactions, and is structured to advise its clients on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, valuations, and general strategic assessments.
Before founding CastleOak Securities, Mr. Jones held several high-level positions on Wall Street spanning 18 years, including head of investment banking and capital markets at Blaylock & Company, and, before that, in investment banking and equity capital market areas at Merrill Lynch.
Mr. Jones has volunteered his time to speak about investment banking at the School of Management’s Feld Career Center, has been a long-time sponsor of the undergraduate Finance Club’s Mentoring Luncheon in New York City, and has hosted students at his office to provide guidance on careers in finance. He is also a member of the School of Management Annual Fund Leadership Giving Society.
Mr. Jones earned his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in business administration from Boston University School of Management. He holds Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses and is on the All Stars Project New Jersey Board and the Presidential Advisory Council of Hampton University.
Arnold M. Karp, BSBA ’81
Arnold M. Karp is the founder of Karp Associates, a building firm specializing in distinguished custom homes and diverse and historical renovations. In addition, Karp Associates and Affiliates provide professional construction management services and real estate consulting as well as development services for commercial and nonprofit clients. Mr. Karp is also co-founder of Insight Laboratories, a consumer products testing company with offices in New York and Singapore.
Before starting Karp Associates more than 25 years ago, Mr. Karp held the position of CFO at a privately held company with holdings in insurance, communications, and real estate. Prior to that, he worked at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in New York City.
Mr. Karp is an active civic leader, serving on several community boards, such as the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, for which he was also president and head of the Finance Committee; the New Canaan Community YMCA; and the Town of Canaan Long-Range Planning Team, among others. Mr. Karp is a 2010 Moffly Media “Light a Fire Award” winner for his community service. He is also a gracious supporter of the School of Management, having established the Karp Fund for Excellence in Entrepreneurship at the School as well as hosting alumni receptions in Connecticut.
Mr. Karp graduated magna cum laude from Boston University School of Management with a BS in business administration and is a member of the School of Management Annual Fund Leadership Giving Society.
