Nominee to Lead US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division
David WeilDavid Weil, a BU School of Management expert in labor market policy and industrial and labor relations policy, has been chosen by President Obama to lead the US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. The nomination was one of 29 made in a recent announcement by the president, who says he is “grateful that the talented and dedicated individuals have agreed to take on these important roles and devote their talents to serving the American people.” More

2013 Douglas McGregor Award Winner
Karen Golden BiddleSenior Associate Dean, Professor, and Everett W. Lord Distinguished Faculty Scholar in Organizational Behavior Karen Golden-Biddle has received the 2013 Douglas McGregor Award for the best paper published in the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science during 2012. Her paper, titled “Identity Struggles in Merging Organizations: Renegotiating the Sameness-Difference Dialectic,” was co-authored with Ann Langley, Trish Reay, Jean-Louis Denis, Yann Hébert, Lise Lamothe, and Julie Gervais. Susan FournierA paper by Susan Fournier, professor of Marketing and Dean’s Research Fellow, has been honored with a Citation of Excellence Award for 2013 from Emerald Group Publishing. This accolade recognizes the most outstanding articles from the top management journals around the world. Fournier’s winning paper, “Getting brand communities right,” appeared in 2009 in Harvard Business Review and was also included in 2013 in the book HBR’s Ten Must-Reads. More

Major Solar Energy Research Grants
Nitin JoglekarAssociate Professor and Dean’s Research Fellow Nitin Joglekar has received the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2012 Concentrating Solar Power SunShot R&D Award for the “development of self-cleaning solar collector mirrors,” in conjunction with the Sandia National Lab and Abengoa Solar, the principal contractor at the Mojave Solar project. The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center (MTTC) also awarded Professor Joglekar a grant for the “development and commercialization of self-cleaning photo-voltaic solar panels,” along with co-principal investigators Professors Horenstein and Mazumder from Boston University’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
Extraordinary Contributions in Entrepreneurship & Technology
Vinit awardVinit Nijhawan, managing director of the Technology Development Office and director of Enterprise Programs at the Scool’s Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization, has been presented with an award for “Extraordinary Contributions in Entrepreneurship & Technology” by the Indian American Forum for Political Education’s Massachusetts Chapter. This honor was bestowed in May 2012 by Governor Deval Patrick in celebration of National Asian Pacific Heritage Month.

Timothy Simcoe Tim Simcoe has been appointed associate editor in the business strategy department of Management Science. He has also been appointed to a committee of the National Academy of Sciences to study Intellectual Property Management in Standard-Setting Processes.
