Admissions

The strength of the graduate programs at the Boston University School of Management has a foundation in the quality and commitment of the people involved. From our first-class faculty and staff, to the importance we place on having an excellent graduate student body, you can count on being challenged and elevated to higher degrees of excellence than you thought possible. Download the Graduate Programs Viewbook (PDF) to learn more.

The Admission Committee looks for three primary factors when they review an application:

  • A record of academic excellence — so we can be assured that you will thrive in our dynamic learning environment
  • Evidence of managerial and leadership potential — to indicate the value you will bring to future employers
  • Diversity of thought — to ensure that you will be challenged by people who have different fields of reference within your teams and in the classroom

We are committed to enrolling qualitatively excellent incoming classes that represent global, ethnic, and demographic diversity.  It is our policy to encourage prospective students to consider our management programs regardless of race, color, religious creed, gender, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, eligible veteran status or any other category protected by law.

The Graduate Admission Office promises that you will have a thoughtful and timely response to your completed application. We are here to provide you with support during the admissions process, and to make the experience as transparent as possible while maintaining your privacy. Please call (617) 353-2670, e-mail mba@bu.edu, or visit us if we can assist you with your application.

Admissions Information for Public and Nonprofit Management Students

We are looking for students who are passionate, curious, disciplined and are ready for an academic challenge. The majority of our students have an average of five years experience in the public, nonprofit or private sector prior to attending school. They hail from a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs including French, Art History, Political Science, Biology, Dance, Business Administration, Physics, Liberal Arts and Environmental Management.

While we do not require a visit to class and a meeting with students, we encourage all applicants to do so to get a "feel" for the environment here. To arrange a visit to the program, make inquiries regarding the curriculum and/or meet with the Faculty Director, Kristen McCormack, please call (617) 358-2768 or send an email to kmac@bu.edu. An interview with the Faculty Director is encouraged though not required.
