Banks, investors, regulators, Congress, and the public continue to disentangle the costs of the subprime mortgage debacle. As they do, attention must also turn to how we might achieve the twin aims of increasing homeownership among groups historically excluded from those markets while reducing the risk of future lending meltdowns.
One important answer is transparency.
