Concentrations

The Boston University School of Management offers tremendous flexibility in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program, allowing you to customize your degree by choosing a concentration from a number of disciplines.

Concentrations:

Accounting

Sixteen credits in total are required.  All courses are four credits except as noted.

All Accounting concentrators must take the following courses:

SMG offers a Certificate in Advanced Accountancy (CAA) program during the summer.  The CAA requires completion of the following courses, over and above the completion of an Accounting concentration.

Please Note:  Requirements to sit for the CPA exam vary from state to state.  Students should check with the state in which they intend to practice to ensure they have met specific requirements.

SMG students completing the CAA must take the following courses for their Accounting concentration: AC 347, AC 348, AC 469, and either AC 414 or AC 445

Finance concentrators are required to take one additional SMG elective in Finance or in any other discipline within SMG in order to satisfy their fourth SMG elective requirement.

General Management

Four courses in total are required.

Based on career or graduate school plans, or to develop a broad, generalized program students may prefer to take courses in an area in which no concentration is offered.  In these instances, students may choose a General Management concentration.  Any four SMG elective courses can be used to fulfill the requirements for this option.  Students who concentrate in General Management cannot double concentrate.

International Management

Five to nine courses in total are required, depending on the foreign language requirement.

Additional IM requirements

Please Note: Students concentrating in International Management must 1) complete a language other than English through the fourth-semester level, 2) obtain a certificate of proficiency in a foreign language from CAS, or 3) earn a score of 560 or above on an SAT II foreign language exam as described in the foreign language section of the bulletin.

All IM concentrators must also complete one CAS International Relations course.

Law

Four courses in total are required.

Three courses from the following list are required:

LA “B” list

Law concentrators are required to take one additional 300-level or higher SMG elective.  Concentrators should choose this fourth elective after consulting with a member of the law faculty.  It is strongly recommended but not required that this fourth elective be a non-law course.

Management Information Systems

Five courses in total are required.

One of the following CAS programming courses is required:
