HONORS PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Community Service

Community service, while always a part of the life of the Program, is a new requirement - effective with the Class of 2010. Four service projects are required of each student by graduation. Students may seek out service opportunities on their own or use the resources provided by the Honors Program Community Service Coordinator, a student-held position. Projects may be completed solely or as part of a group.

Community Service Update

On Saturday December 1st, approximately twenty Honors Program freshmen and sophomores participated in holiday season gift-wrapping at the Prudential Center. The students wrapped gifts for busy shoppers to raise money for an organization called Extras for Creative Learning (EXCL), which is based out of Dorchester, MA. EXCL takes safe, clean scrap from businesses in the Boston area and distributes them to schools and children’s after school programs. The day was quite a success; students were able to help EXCL earn several hundred dollars in donations!

Introducing Alexander Brook and Paige Chisholm

The Honors Program would also like to introduce its two new community service coordinators for the 2007/2008 academic year. Alexander Brook and Paige Chisholm, both rising sophomores, will work together to coordinate events for the class of 2010 and new class of 2011. In addition, they will find ways for Honors Program upperclassmen to get involved in the community. Any questions or suggestions regarding service events for the upcoming year may be sent to Alex or Paige at albrook@bu.edu or pchis@bu.edu.
