HONORS PROGRAM

Guidelines and Requirements

Admission to the Program

  • Qualified students may be invited to join the Program at two separate points in their academic career: either as incoming freshmen, or after completion of freshman year. Students who are not invited as incoming freshmen but who have a minimum 3.5 GPA on at least 32 credits of completed academic course work at the end of freshman year may be invited to join the Program after submitting an application. The application includes two letters of recommendation and a personal interview. Once grades are posted for the spring term, the final selection will be made based on academic requirements, the interview, and space availability. No invitations to the Program are extended beyond this timeframe.

Grade Requirements

  • All Honors Program students must earn an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 upon completion of their degree in order to graduate the School’s Honors Program. Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 3.30 during the course of their education may continue in the Program with the consent of the Faculty Director and Assistant Dean, so long as there is a realistic prospect of graduating with a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Students must achieve a minimum grade of “B” in each of the Honors Program seminars and a “Pass” in the Freshman Colloquium.

Credit Requirements

  • Students must be registered for a minimum of four academic courses (of at least four credits each) in each of the eight semesters of the Program.  Any variation to this policy must be approved by the Faculty Director and Assistant Dean.

Program Completion

  • Adjustments to the Honors Program curriculum will be made jointly by the Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Program and the Faculty Director on a case-by-case basis.
  • Students who withdraw from, or otherwise fail to satisfy the requirements of the Program, will receive full credit towards the BSBA degree for those Honors Program requirements that they have successfully completed, with the exception of the Honors Program Seminars. The seminars will count as additional coursework. Students will not be removed from the Program for receiving less than a 3.3 GPA in their freshman year. Students should consult their Honors Program academic advisor in the SMG Undergraduate Program Office for more information.
  • Successful completion of the Honors Program will result in the notation "Awarded School Honors" on the student's official transcript and the student will be individually recognized at the School’s Commencement ceremony
